Definition
Genus Eumenes represents a group of solitary potter wasps known for constructing distinctive, pot-shaped nests made of mud. These wasps are typically black and yellow and are found worldwide. Unlike social wasps, each female Eumenes wasp independently builds and provisions her nest. They hunt caterpillars and other small insects, paralyzing them with their sting before placing them inside the nest as food for their developing larvae. Their solitary nature makes them less aggressive, and they are considered beneficial insects in gardens.
