Definition
The lesser omentum is a smaller peritoneal fold that connects the lesser curvature of the stomach and the duodenum to the liver. Unlike the greater omentum, it's more delicate and primarily supports structures. Think of it as a connecting "bridge" between the stomach/duodenum and liver. It contains important blood vessels like the hepatic artery and the portal vein. It also contains the bile duct, transporting bile from the liver to the gallbladder and duodenum. The lesser omentum provides a pathway for these crucial vessels and ducts.
