Definition
A meteor swarm is a collection of meteoroids traveling together in space along a similar orbit. These swarms are often the remnants of comets that have broken apart, leaving behind a trail of dust and debris. When Earth passes through a meteor swarm's orbit, we experience a meteor shower, with a higher-than-usual number of meteors visible in the night sky. Think of a meteor swarm as a cosmic traffic jam, but with shooting stars instead of cars.
